How to Light a Cigarette in the Wind

Steps
  1. Open a match book and tear out two matches.
  2. Hold the matches about 1cm apart from each others before striking.
  3. Gently push up the other match, as the first match ignites, so that it will ignite one second later than the first. This give you a moment to light your cigarette in the wind during full ignition.
  4. Shake the matches out with your left hand and discard them in an appropriate receptacle.

Tips

  • Use dry matches or a lighter.
  • While lighting your cigarette, cup your hands around it to reduce the wind's effects. Try cupping from different directions if it doesn't work at first. Crosswinds can be tricky. Be careful not to burn your hands while doing this.
  • The wind causes second-hand smoke to travel further. Consider keeping a reasonable distance from a building entrance.
  • Hold the matches at a downward angle so the flame burns more of the paper. Be careful, as you have a greater chance of burning yourself if you do this.
